Scottie Scheffler's Historic Win at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson
Plus, Picks for Truist. Maybe we will get some right here.
A Record-Breaking Performance
Scottie Scheffler delivered a stunning performance at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, achieving a historic victory with the lowest 72-hole score in PGA Tour history. Scheffler's final round at TPC Craig Ranch was a masterclass, as he shot an 8-under 63 on Sunday, finishing at 31-under 253. This score ties the record for the lowest 72-hole mark, previously set by Justin Thomas in 2017 and Ludvig Åberg in 2023.
Highlights of the Tournament
Scheffler's round was marked by a series of impressive shots, including four consecutive birdies and a 20-foot eagle putt at the par-5 ninth. Despite a bogey at the par-3 17th, he maintained his lead, closing with a par at the final hole. His performance places him among the elite "30-under club," with a record for relation to par in the continental U.S.
Upcoming Changes and Reflections
The tournament precedes a $15 million renovation of the TPC layout, led by Lanny Wadkins, who aims to provide a challenging test of golf. Despite expectations of a lower winning score, Scheffler's performance exceeded all predictions.
A Personal Triumph
This victory is particularly special for Scheffler, marking his first official PGA Tour win since the 2024 Travelers Championship and his maiden title at his hometown event. Reflecting on his journey, Scheffler shared the significance of the tournament, recalling his early experiences attending and playing in it, and the personal milestones associated with it.
"It feels like a lifetime of hard work and sacrifice for little moments like these and ... they're pretty special."
An emotional win for Scottie Scheffler. ❤️

The 2025 Truist Championship is shaping up to be a thrilling event, especially with its move to the Philadelphia Cricket Club’s Wissahickon Course. Having played this course ourselves, we can say with confidence: it’s a beautiful but fair test of golf — and we believe the top contenders are going to tear it up.
Rory McIlroy, coming off a Masters win and already the betting favorite at +400, looks poised to dominate again. He’s driving the ball with precision and power, and with Wissahickon not being the longest track by PGA Tour standards, McIlroy could be in scoring mode all week.
Unless the tournament organizers push the tees back by another hundred yards — and really stretch the layout — the biggest names might find the course more of a birdie-fest than a grind. The fairways are tight, yes, but these guys are simply on another level.
Keep an eye on Jordan Spieth, who’s trending upward ahead of his PGA Championship bid, and Shane Lowry, whose tidy game suits this course well. Justin Rose is another smart pick — he’s sharp and experienced, perfect for a course that rewards smart play.
And don’t sleep on Justin Thomas or Viktor Hovland — both are capable of going low, and if the conditions are soft, look out.
