Tee Talk: What "Not" to Do on the Golf Course
Plus, Rory's win at the players or some may say JJ Spaun's Loss

Hello Tee Talkers and Bogey Bots!
Golf is a game of tradition, skill, and respect. But let's face it, we've all seen some questionable behavior on the course that makes us shake our heads—or laugh out loud. Today, we're diving into the lighter side of golf etiquette with a list of things you definitely shouldn't do on the course. Let's have some fun while learning what to avoid!
1. Don't Be a Cart Path Rebel
Sure, the fairway looks like a tempting shortcut, but resist the urge to take your golf cart off-road. Stick to the cart paths and designated areas to keep the course in tip-top shape. Plus, you don't want to be the one explaining tire tracks to the groundskeeper!
2. Avoid the "Happy Gilmore" Swing
While it might be tempting to channel your inner Happy Gilmore and take a running start at the ball, it's best to leave the trick shots to the movies. Your playing partners—and the course—will thank you for it.
3. No "Ball Retrieval" Dives
We get it, golf balls can be expensive. But before you dive headfirst into the pond to retrieve your wayward shot, remember that dignity is priceless. Let the ball go and live to play another day.
4. Don't Be a "Range Ball" Bandit
Those range balls are for practice, not for sneaking onto the course. Leave the striped balls at the range and play with your own. Besides, nothing says "amateur" like a range ball in your bag.
5. Avoid the "Caddyshack" Gopher Hunt
While it might be fun to reenact scenes from Caddyshack, chasing after imaginary gophers with a club is generally frowned upon. Stick to the game at hand and leave the wildlife alone.
6. No "Fashion Faux Pas"
While golf fashion has come a long way, there are still some no-nos. Leave the denim, tank tops, and flip-flops at home. Embrace the collared shirt and proper golf attire—your fellow golfers will appreciate it.
7. Don't Be a "Green Stomper"
The greens are sacred ground, so tread lightly. Avoid stomping around like a dinosaur, and be mindful of your footprints. The next golfer will appreciate a smooth putting surface.
8. Avoid the "Phone Zone"
While it's fine to have your phone with you, don't turn the course into your personal call center. Keep calls brief and step away from the group if you need to chat. And remember, selfies are best saved for after the round!
9. No "Club Tossing" Tantrums
We've all had frustrating moments on the course, but tossing your club like a javelin isn't the answer. Take a deep breath, count to ten, and remember that golf is just a game. Plus, clubs are expensive!
10. Don't Be a "Scorecard Magician"
Honesty is the best policy, especially when it comes to your scorecard. Resist the urge to perform a little "creative accounting" with your strokes. After all, the real victory is in playing with integrity.
We hope this lighthearted guide helps you avoid some common pitfalls and enjoy your time on the course. As always, we'd love to hear your stories and any other "don'ts" you've encountered!
Until next time, keep swinging and playing with respect!

Did Rory Win ? Or Did JJ Spaun Lose
In a thrilling showdown at the 2025 Players Invitational, the final 3 hole playoff turned into a comedy of errors that even the best scriptwriters couldn't have penned. J.J. Spaun, who had been playing like a maestro all weekend, suddenly found himself in a symphony of chaos. It was as if his golf ball had a mind of its own, determined to explore every nook and cranny of the course except the hole.
As Spaun's ball took a scenic tour of the rough, the sand, and even a nearby water hazard (where it seemed to pause for a quick dip), Rory McIlroy stood by, bemused and perhaps a tad relieved. With a wry smile, Rory realized that sometimes the best strategy is simply to let your opponent do all the hard work—of losing, that is.
"I was stunned."
J.J. Spaun was in disbelief watching his tee shot on No. 17 drop into the water.

The Players Championship Final Standings gave us a run for our money — Ignore our previous week’s picks
Yes, going forward, we will change our analysis approach on player picks. The downfall started with Mr. Wydham’s “ I quit” Clark abruptly walking off the course.
This week, we have changed our approach at the Valspar Championship. With a field of players quite different, it is time to see a new name at the top and for some to start making waves.
JT Poston - he will be golfer to watch, and here at Tee Talk we believe he can take the cake.
Justin Thomas - an obvious fan favorite. He has less competition and is arguably the best golfer this week. If he can take the momentum form last week, it could be his week.
Tommy Fleetwood “Mac” - The swing on this guy from makes it hard to believe he does not win more. He is a top contender on our list, but time will tell.
Stay tuned to see if our new approach will take flight in picking golfers. In the wise words of Joey Coldcuts “You’re gonna have to step it up just a hair”.
